L’Âme du vin – The Soul of Wine
Release date: 2019
Runtime: 101 mins
L’Âme du vin (“The Soul of Wine”), is the first feature film of director Marie-Ange Gorbanevsky. For her documentary, she spent a year scouting for locations and people, and then another year filming several “vignerons” (winemakers), craftsmen making the barrels, as well as international wine experts, including a Japanese chef. All of the interviewed winemakers produce organic wine (vin bio), without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. They talked about their work and inherited practices, on the vineyard (every year, to transform it into wine), and in the cellar (throughout years, to transform the wine before putting it into a bottle).
Wines are born from the encounter between the earth, sky, and human beings… Each year, the success of their vintage is a genuine epic.
The work with the vines and in the cellars throughout the seasons results in the creation of exceptional and vibrant wines that are adulated and sought out around the world: Romanée-Conti, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Meursault, Volnay…
These wines carry within themselves a fragment of the earth from which they arise and the soul of the people who gave them life.
