‘A Life in Wine: Gérard Basset, The World’s Favourite Sommelier’ is a film depiction of one man’s voyage to change the wine world, and is packed full of stories, love and laughter, leaving viewers wanting to pour a glass, as well as raise it, to the wonderful life and legacy of Gérard Basset.
Uncorking the secrets of the man behind the wine glass, this documentary tells the story of an industry legend who changed the future of wine service and hospitality.
The documentary spans his life, starting from when Basset first crossed the channel from France to watch his beloved football team, St-Étienne, which led to a greater love of England as a country. Deciding to stay, Basset paid his way through a modest entry into hospitality, via pot washing and waiting on tables, which led him on a journey to a new obsession: wine. It was this adoration of all things vinous that drove his illustrious and many-faceted career, eventually resulting in him holding the title of Master Sommelier and Master of Wine simultaneously.
